About Only Fur Paws

Our story, Only Fur Paws. I have a very friendly 12-year-old Red Nose Pit Bull named Zy. When Zy was around 9 years old, my dog began to scratch, lick, and constantly chew at his body. His eyes, nose, ears, paws, and growing area were completely red and inflamed. Patches of hair were missing in various places on his body. as a result of the excessive gnawing, biting, licking, and scratching. This caused his skin to become raw and irritated, even bleeding at times. With hot spots all over his body, my dog was constantly in discomfort and pain throughout the day and night. It seemed like he was gnawing at himself every minute. The ongoing smacking, biting, and gnawing sounds are what I heard constantly. At night, he couldn't sleep due to the discomfort, and I could not sleep well due to the disturbing licking and gnawing sounds. Finally, after a few weeks passed with no change in Zy's condition, I decided to take him to the vet. Zy's veterinarian discovered that he had developed allergies, that he may have glaucoma, and that he was developing cataracts, possibly from food or the surrounding environment we lived in (plants, bushes, trees). The vet believed his allergies were caused by the environment and advised me to stop taking Zy for walks. The veterinarian prescribed antibiotics for his allergies. While taking the medication, his allergies would be suppressed temporarily. However, as soon as the medication was done, his allergies arose again, and a refill of the prescription would be needed. For months I did as the veterinarian advised, no longer taking my dog on walks, his only exercise was walking in the backyard. Grateful to have a nice-sized backyard, he was able to exercise and roam freely. However, he is an active dog that needs to be able to release his energy by going on walks outdoors. I was no longer able to take my dog on walks, and I felt bad for him. After the third refill, about six months later, his condition remained the same, why? I wondered; I had not taken my dog for a walk-in month, as advised by the veterinarian. So why was there no change in his condition? Maybe it wasn't the environment. I then began to look at his food as the source of his allergies. Not wanting to have my dog placed on antibiotics for the remainder of his life, I began the search for a new brand of dog food, for the antibiotics would not be the cure to the problem. The search for a new brand of dog food began. a brand that would alleviate his symptoms. Petco, Petfood Express, all the local pet stores in various nearby cities—I purchased brand after brand of dog food. I purchased just about every brand on the shelves. Nothing seemed to help with his condition. I truly believe the poor products associated with the foods he was consuming contributed not only to his allergies but also to a decrease in eyesight. After much reading and research, I discovered that poor dog food products can be harmful and cause health problems in dogs. My mother suggested I start making his dog food after unsuccessful attempts to find a more suitable, healthier brand. At first, I wasn't too keen on the idea of making my dog's food. Ignoring her suggestion, I figured there had to be a brand on the market to assist with his allergies. After a few more unsuccessful attempts to find a new brand of dog food, my mind quickly changed, and I considered my mother's suggestions. After contemplating, I followed through on my mother's suggestion. First, I began to read and research to acquire the knowledge of what human grade foods, (vet approved) dogs can safely consume that are beneficial to their health, bodies, as well as meet their daily nutritional needs. after obtaining the nutritional information needed and valuing foods that would be beneficial to his condition and wellness. I put together a list of foods, went to the grocery store, purchased the ingredients, then went home and prepared a meal for Zy. That night, I noticed a huge change in his condition. His symptoms had greatly improved. The itching calmed, as well as the biting. It was then a matter of determining which foods he would be able to tolerate. After a few months of substituting foods in and out of his diet, I found healthy combinations of foods. ingredients with the correct balance of nutrients that would meet his daily nutritional needs, while preventing his allergies from occurring permanently. My dog enjoys his current diet because it is good for his health and well-being. It's Delicious! Zy licks the bowl completely clean every time food is placed in his dog bowl, wanting more and more!
